NHC tracks emerging tropical disturbance off Southeast US coast

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring a trough of low pressure situated over the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

This atmospheric disturbance is generating a wide swath of disorganized showers and thunderstorms across the region.

Projected path across Florida

According to the NHC’s morning update, the system is anticipated to travel northeastward, crossing over Florida within the next day.

It is expected to reach the offshore areas of the US Southeast coast later in the week.

Potential for development

While environmental conditions are largely unfavorable, there is a possibility of some slow development when the system reaches the offshore areas along the US Southeast coast.

The NHC has highlighted that the chances of formation remain low, with a zero percent chance in the next 48 hours and a 20 per cent chance over the coming week.

Heavy rainfall expected

Regardless of whether the system develops further, it is set to bring significant rainfall to parts of Florida.

Residents in these areas can expect enhanced precipitation over the next several days.
